Louie Sanchez is the solo project of Eirene Cloma, a Toronto-based musician originally from North Vancouver, BC. They are a member of nationally acclaimed kulintang ensemble Pantayo whose debut album was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize in 2020. Louie is a return to their roots as a singer-songwriter trained in classical and jazz guitar. Their sound is influenced by their love for country, folk, and R&B. Louie narrates stories of labor, loss, and longing through their experiences as a working-class Filipino-Canadian.

Directed by Tricia Hagoriles, the “Notice Me” video explores themes of invisibility and loneliness. Using Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood as a backdrop because of its history of queer spaces and history of Filipino community, the video centers on Louie Sanchez seeking connection in familiar places.
With references to Celine Song’s Past Lives, Wong Kar-wai films, and street photography, Khanh Tudo’s cinematography captures subtle moments of being alone in a dreamy, colourful cityscape.

" Louie Sanchez is the new solo project of Eirene Cloma, a Toronto musician who is best known for being a member of the Polaris Music Prize-shortlisted Kulintang ensemble Pantayo. Cloma's own music is inspired by another Filipino genre, harana, which according to a press release, is a "courtship practice in which a man serenades his beloved from outside her window, hoping to gain her attention." Their first single, "One Thing I Can Afford," is a warm and inviting folk song, coloured by a sense of romance that's driven by consent and communication. "

In Pantayo, Cloma plays guitar, bass and keys, and sings, as well as helping with composition and arrangements. As Louie Sanchez, the multi-instrumentalist is stepping out on their own, with a new style and a new name to go with it. "

Louie Sanchez is the solo project of Eirene Cloma, 1/5th of Toronto-based “queer Filipinx kulintang gong punks,” Pantayo. Rosie connected with Eirene at a moment that feels like it’s still a formative period for the artist, in the midst of still cultivating this new persona, while they explore what it means to queer the traditional Filipinx song form of harana— a kind of love song or serenade.
